Learning and launching innovation in neurosurgical care: A look back at Winter Clinics 2026

Starting with a focus on endoscopic spine surgery, then expanding to a series of current topics including vascular disorders of the meninges and the use of artificial intelligence in cranial surgery, the 2026 Winter Clinics for Cranial & Spinal Surgery continued its legacy of learning and training on the full range of neurosurgical care.

The five-day premier education and training event wrapped up February 26 in Snowmass Village, Colo., for more than 150 attendees and faculty. The neurosurgeons and providers of Mayfield Brain & Spine were joined by experts from across the country to immerse themselves in the latest research and innovation.

"We continue to engage with practicing neurosurgeons, researchers, advanced practice providers, residents and fellows, making the Winter Clinics more relevant than ever," Mayfield neurosurgeon Dr. Bryan Krueger said. "These sessions provide an opportunity to learn together and share leading-edge knowledge that help us better serve patients with the full spectrum of neurosurgical disorders."

This year's Winter Clinics included:

  • A full track for advanced practice providers, including sessions on "Postoperative Complications of Spinal Disorders" by Mayfield nurse practitioner Jody Beckington, and "Tackling Transitions of Care: How to Treat the Adult Patient with Pediatric Problems," with Mayfield neurosurgeon Dr. Lauren Ostling.
  • A research competition for neurosurgery residents. The winner was a presentation on "Brain Surgery Training from an Avatar" by Dr. Giselle Coelho of the Mayo Clinic. Others honored included Dr. Srijan Adhikari and Dr. Abhishek Bhutada of Carilion Clinic, and Dr. Megh Trivedi of the Cleveland Clinic.
  • Presentations on the emerging field of endoscopic spine surgery, including "Widening the Scope: Endoscopy for the Full Spectrum of Spinal Degeneration" with Dr. Jacky Yeung of Yale New Haven Health.
  • Other spine topics included "Lumbar Artificial Disc Replacement" with Dr. Hyun Bae of Cedars-Sinai Spine Center.
  • Using embolization in neurovascular surgery was the topic of two presentations by Mayfield neurosurgeons: "Embolization for Spinal CSF Leak" from Dr. Michael Robinson, and "MMA Embolization for Migraines" with Dr. Andrew Ringer.
  • "Contemporary Management of Vestibular Schwannoma," with Dr. Vincent DiNapoli of Mayfield

This year's Winter Clinics were presented by Mayfield Clinic, Mayo Clinic, Cleveland Clinic and Goodman Campbell Brain & Spine, and jointly provided by the American Association of Neurological Surgeons. Gold Sponsors were ATEC Spine, Globus Medical and Medtronic; the Bronze Sponsor was Orthofix; and other sponsors included Isto Biologics and DePuy Synthes.
